Rio Rocks!
After a great second day at Iguazu Falls we arrive in Rio in time for a great Japanese dinner in Ipanema. The day at Iguazu started out with the long awaited Toucan sighting. We saw these magnificent birds in the trees and flying as well as at a fantastic bird farm where we both experienced die-bombing Macaws who used our bodies as landing pads! We then hiked to a lookout point with our excellent guide, Carlos, to see the falls from the Brazilan side - very panoramic views! The water is at the lowest levels it has ever been according to the natives. When at full capacity, the falls are said to be about ten times bigger than we saw them. They were still mighty impressive. The flight to Rio stopped in Sao Paulo - the second largest city (behind Mexico City) in the world with 20 million people! We were blown away by the scale of the city - skyscrapers like those in Manhattan went on for as far as the eye could see in every direction. The city is 100 kilometers across! We were met in Rio by our guide, Paulo, and delivered us to the Copacabana Palace Hotel with our ocean view room! We´re off today on a full day tour and will hit the beaches tomorrow!
