Puerto Varas, Chile

We are spending a delightful and relaxing day in beautiful Puerto Varas on Lake Llanquihue with the stunning Orsono Volcano looming on the horizon. The town has a distinct German feel from the influence of its early settlers. Last night we tried our luck at the cascino - lots of laughs but no dinero! Everyone thinks Clark is at least 20 and since the gambling age is 18, he has no problems. He plans to try his luck at poker later today! We had a great dinner at a local family restaurant - wonderful feast for so little $$! This morning we had a terrific tour of the waterfront and fishing markets in Puerto Montt, a larger city nearby. We enjoyed seeing a giant Sea Lion feeding from the docks! The selection of fresh fish was awesome -- salmon, clams, sea urchins (we took a pic for Dr. Dave!), conger and a whole lot more! The salmon fishing industy is the largest industry in town. We ate fried empanadas freshly made for us on the docks! The fishing village was a feast for the eyes and camera lense! Tomorrow it´s off on our two day crossing of the lakes of Chile and Argentina with a Thursday landing in Bariloche, Argentina where we will ski and horseback ride again. We will wear the tighty whities this time! Ciao

Dear Carlos and Tito --

All you adventures and sight-seeing sound WONDERFUL!!!

I hope you received my blog comment from last week - and I just replied to Clark's second email from this afternoon. Your pictures are stunning!!

Got home safe and sound (and late) Sunday evening. Had a very relaxing and hot time in Ioway -- everyone says to tell you both hello!

I started a little part time work at Duke Admissions this morning. Just for the month of Aug -- mostly mornings for four hours each day, answering calls. Not rocket science, but fun. Also have rehearsals all this week, each evening -- concert in Raleigh for VAE Fri pm. So I'm sorry I've been out of touch!

Please know I'm thinking of you every day! And I miss you!! Keep those blog reports coming!!

MUCH LOVE, Mom
